Application of SMC Composite Materials in Power Insulation

SMC composite material, namely sheet molding compound, is mainly composed of GF (special-purpose glass fiber yarn), MD (filler) and various additives. It first emerged in Europe in the early 1960s, and the United States and Japan successively developed this manufacturing technology around 1965. China introduced advanced foreign SMC production lines and production processes in the late 1980s.
In the field of power insulation, SMC composite materials are widely adopted as insulating materials in power transmission systems. For instance, they are applied to support and fix electrical equipment such as high-voltage transformers, insulating poles and grounding grids. Thanks to its high mechanical strength and excellent insulating properties, SMC composite materials can ensure the stable operation of power systems.
